EVERETT — Edmonds College Art Gallery began displaying a new exhibit on Oct. 10 featuring a series of portraits by a local photographer.
The exhibit, “Origin / Identity / Belonging II,” showcases 50 black-and-white portraits of members of the Edmonds College community who have traveled to Edmonds from around the world. The artist, Michael Wewer, has taught photography at Edmonds College since 2001 and is an alumnus of the college. The portraits highlight community members — including students, faculty and administrators — from a wide range of national origins, Wewer wrote in a press release. In 2019, Wewer debuted the first installment of the project, which featured portraits of several Edmonds College students.
“In capturing portraits of these individuals, I aim to highlight one of the many great aspects of Edmonds College: the diversity of the campus and the strength of our multicultural community,” Wewer said. “Through my photos, I am also able to help people be seen and make their stories heard.”
The gallery will display the exhibit through Dec. 12. Edmonds College Art Gallery is located on the third floor of Lynnwood Hall at 20000 68th Ave. W in Lynnwood. It’s open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
