Lighten up: Visitors can step back in time on candlelight tours of Fort Nisqually in October, but first, they need to get tickets.
Tickets are available now for the popular tours, which take place in Tacoma’s Point Defiance Park on the evenings of Oct. 3 and 4.
The tours take visitors back to the fall of 1855 on an hourlong walk through the fort, past era-appropriate scenes — a blacksmith’s shop, a post-dinner gathering — populated by a large cast of re-enactors.
The popular event may sell out, but organizers can’t add more dates.
“We do have to rely on a volunteer base, and to put this event on takes about 200 volunteers,” said Peggy Barchi with the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and teens, and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Tours leave every 15 minutes from 7 to 9:30 p.m., Oct. 3, and from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Oct. 4. Call 253-591-5339 for tickets, or visit www.fortnisqually.org for information.
