50 years ago (1962)

Smartly attired in new tan and dark brown uniforms were three deputies on Sheriff Donald Jennings’ staff. The uniforms, the first to be worn by female deputies here, were selected by the officers themselves. They were Gladys Abfalter, Vivian Griffiths and Doris Twitchell.

Phil Blodgett of the Everett Golf and Country Club would head the Snohomish County Amateur Golf Association for the next year. Named to serve with him were Roger Stearns of Port Gardner, vice president, and Chuck Rutter, Cedarcrest, secretary. The group also voted to set up an advisory board made up of the three officers of the men’s golf clubs in the county.

25 years ago (1987)

Snohomish County Clerk Kay Anderson intended to seek another term in November. She had held the office since 1970. County Councilman Brian Corcoran and state Sen. Larry Vognild of Everett were co-chairing her re-election campaign. Anderson lived in Mill Creek.

The sedate community of Brier simmered as the county planning commission held a hearing on proposals for a new comprehensive plan. More than 100 residents attended the meeting and all of the speakers urged the commission to reject commercial and multifamily development.
