SEATTLE — In the future, Mariners fans could be riding special King County Metro buses to the ballpark because of a court ruling Tuesday that upheld legislation sponsored by Sen. Patty Murray favoring public transit over private charters.
Murray says the ruling is great news for Seattle sports fans and that special service to Mariners games is a legitimate government service.
A spokeswoman for Metro, Linda Thielke, says “this clears things up.” Although Metro is not offering special buses to Mariners games this year, it does provide the special bus service to Seahawks, Sounders and Huskies games as well as the Seafair and Folklife festivals.
Such service was allowed while the case was in the courts. Tuesday’s decision came from the appeals court in Washington, D.C.
