DARRINGTON — Roughly 45 volunteers were helping sheriff’s deputies Tuesday in a search for a missing man with dementia whose truck was found on a remote road southeast of Darrington.

Roderick Latham , 83, who does not normally drive, left his Snohomish home around 1:30 a.m. Friday without telling his wife, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. He was driving a 2005 black GMC Sierra truck with license plate B64341V.

The truck was reportedly abandoned near Rat Trap Pass in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, about a 50-minute drive from Darrington.

The sheriff’s office put a Silver Alert on Friday.

Latham is 5-foot-10 with blue eyes. He was last seen wearing light-colored khaki pants, a gray wool jacket and a baseball cap, according to the sheriff’s office.

Searches continued this week, with a helicopter and drones helping from the air.
