EVERETT — Law enforcement arrested a Lake Stevens man Thursday after he allegedly robbed a convenience store with an AK-47 rifle the day before.

Around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, patrol deputies responded to a report of a robbery at a convenience store gas station in the 16400 block of 84th Street Northeast in Lake Stevens, according to a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Surveillance footage depicted the suspect arriving on a motorcycle and removing an AK-47 rifle from the backpack he was carrying, the release said. He entered the store and allegedly pointed the rifle at the clerk, demanding money. After the clerk complied, he fled the scene.

North County patrol deputies and Robbery Burglary Unit detectives identified the suspect as a 30-year-old Lake Stevens man, the release said.

Around 5 p.m. Thursday, the Violent Offender Task Force surveilled the suspect before arresting him at his residence in the 10300 block of 129th Avenue Northeast, the release said. During the arrest, the motorcycle, helmet, riding gear, backpack and rifle used in the robbery were in plain view inside the suspect’s open garage. Detectives obtained a search warrant to recover the evidence.

Law enforcement booked the man into Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery. He was expected to make his first appearance in court at 1 p.m. Friday, the release said.

This remains an active investigation.
