EVERETT — Design work is set to begin on a long-desired pedestrian bridge connecting college campuses along north Broadway after the Everett City Council allocated $2.5 million toward the project Wednesday.
The funding comes entirely from a state grant paid for by the $17 billion Move Ahead Washington transportation package the Washington legislature approved in 2022. The grant totals $12.9 million.
The new bridge — set to be located just north of 10th Street across Broadway — will connect Everett Community College’s main campus to its newly built Learning Resource Center, which includes the college’s library. It will also connect the community college to the Washington State University Everett campus.
The $2.5 million will pay for the design of the pedestrian bridge. It comes after the community college and the city spent years seeking funding for the project.
