A 45-year-old Everett man died when the car he was driving pulled into the path of a military bus on Highway 525 at its intersection with Lincoln Way on Sunday.
A 40-year-old Mukilteo man riding with the driver and another passenger were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after the 11:20 a.m. crash, according to the State Patrol. No information on their conditions was available Sunday.
The name of the driver was being withheld until his next of kin was notified.
The driver of the bus, a 41-year-old Marysville man, and a 57-year-old Mukilteo man driving another car that was hit were both treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.
The bus, carrying military reserve members, was traveling northbound on Highway 525 as the man’s 1993 Ford Taurus wagon stopped at a red light on westbound Lincoln Way, State Patrol Lt. Ken Ginnard said.
For an unknown reason, the driver pulled out while the light was still red, into the path of the bus. The car was broadsided and was forced into a 2003 Lincoln waiting to turn left onto Lincoln Way, Ginnard said.
The second passenger in the Taurus was a female whose name, age and residence were not available.
Highway 525 was closed at the scene for more than an hour after the accident, with northbound traffic detoured to Highway 99 and southbound traffic getting by the wreckage on the shoulder.
