EVERETT — Everett will host an open house on Thursday to gather feedback on its proposed comprehensive plan update and associated regulations, the city announced last week.
The open house will take place 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Carl Gipson Center, 3025 Lombard Ave., Everett.
In 1990, the state Legislature passed the Growth Management Act, requiring cities like Everett to create 20-year comprehensive plans, laying out the policies that will prepare the city for an increase in population and jobs.
The goals of the Growth Management Act include increasing housing supply, encouraging development while reducing urban sprawl and creating multi-model transportation systems. Cities’ comprehensive plans seek to lay the framework for these goals on a local level.
Experts say increasing housing supply would bring down housing costs and combat displacement. The comprehensive plan also hopes to limit the negative public health and environmental impacts of low-density housing.
Everett is required to update its comprehensive plan every 10 years. The city hopes to complete its update by June 30.
Complete drafts of the comprehensive plan, along with other documents, are available at everettwa.gov/2044. The comment period for the current draft package runs until May 26.
