Highway 529 bridge struck by semi, causing major backups

A bridge closure led to big congestion on I-5. It was unknown how soon the bridge could reopen.

EVERETT — A semi truck hit a bridge between Everett and Marysville on Monday afternoon, shutting down northbound traffic on Highway 529.

Everett police closed down northbound traffic at East Marine View Drive, according to a tweet at 2:40 p.m.

Police expected the road would be “closed for an extended period while the integrity of the bridge is inspected.”

The closure prompted a reroute of traffic to I-5, leading to major backups on the freeway.

There were no reports of injuries from the semi crash.
