Man gets 4-year prison sentence for killing Clark County police dog

VANCOUVER, Wash. — The judge told the man who stabbed a Clark County sheriff’s dog to death he was lucky to get only a four-year prison sentence.

Superior Court Judge Rich Melnick told H. Keegan Graves at his sentencing Tuesday he wished he could give him more time, but his hands were tied.

The 31-year-old Graves pleaded guilty to harming a police dog and other charges.

The Columbian reported Graves had been caught driving a stolen car last April and ran to hide in a mobile home park, chased by the dog named Kane. Graves said when the dog bit him, he pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed it repeatedly.

The 8-year-old Dutch shepherd died at an animal hospital.
