50 years ago (1958)

Jim Linden was chosen Man of the Year in Sports for 1957. The former Everett High School football star played in the Rose Bowl for the University of Oregon. Also honored was Click Clark, former Everett High School coach, who was retiring. The principal speaker for the fete was Hugh McElhenney who now played for the San Francisco 49ers.

The Florence Humble School of Charm and Modeling was opening tomorrow in Room 719 Medical-Dental Building. One of the school’s first programs would be a six-week Saturday class for teenagers, career women and homemakers.

25 years ago (1983)

As part of Saturday’s open house at General Hospital’s new Critical Care Tower, Sheila Lyon of Lake Stevens would be on hand to paint red hearts on faces of any visitors who cared to display the symbol used to promote the new facility.

Robert Freidenrich of Mukilteo received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, a national award presented to Eagle Scouts who distinguish themselves in business and community service. At the same recognition dinner for the Evergreen Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, the national Silver Beaver award was presented to Gene Hartman of Everett, George Miller and Barbara VanWagnen of Edmonds, and Steve Waters of Marysville.
