50 years ago (1955)

Two Everett military men, S-3c Leon Crawford and Staff Sgt. Lyle Grant, were returning from the Far East aboard the USNS Gen. R.L. Howze. It was to dock in Seattle.

The backfield for Everett Junior College’s football team was ready to take on Olympic College. They were Dwayne Lane, a former Everett High School Seagull; Vic Hussey, Lane’s teammate at Everett High; John Sande, a former Twin City star; and Jim Pingree of Lewiston, Idaho.

25 years ago (1980)

Burleigh Snyder was fighting a race against time. Every year, the 30 acres he farmed on Sunnyside Boulevard near Lake Stevens was becoming a little bit wetter and the growing season a little bit shorter. He said the fields, wedged between the road and Ebey Slough at the base of Soper Hill, weren’t drying out. The problem was attributed to runoff from new homes and businesses nearby.
