MONROE — After 25 years in Monroe, the SonShine Preschool will close at the end of the school year, on May 30.
Located off 149th Street, the preschool is operated by the adjacent First Baptist Church.
On Feb. 15, the school announced the news on its Facebook page. In the post, the school did not explain the reasons behind the closing.
“Please know this was a difficult decision for the leadership of SonShine and First Baptist Church of Monroe, but we wanted to ensure all our families and our community received plenty of notice,” the school wrote.
The preschool thanked “all of our past and present families and community members for your love and support over the years.”
“While this may be a difficult and disorienting change, especially amid rapid, constant change in our world today, we trust in God’s promise found in Hebrew 13:8. ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.’ To this we hold and rejoice in.”
Nearly 35,000 children in Snohomish County needed child care services in 2021, but just shy of 10,000 spots were available through licensed centers locally, according to the state Department of Children, Youth and Families.
