Everett Clinic coming between doctor and patient

Having read a recent letter to the editor on last year’s sale of the Everett Clinic, I decided to make a comment of my now current and ongoing patient care experience.

I see my doctor once a year in November, and two weeks prior to that I have lab work done, then again in April. I have type 2 diabetes with an borderline A1C, I tend to watch along with my doctor. My doctor and I discuss my successes and what to be aware of health wise. If necessary we have talked about increasing my dosage but I tend to hesitate because I don’t want to relay on more heavily dosed pills. It’s not the most extreme case of worry, but I have to watch it or it can and will bite back.

Recently, I had a 90-day prescription come due. Normally, my doctor would renew the prescription.

However, this time I received a email notice from my new so called “health care team,” stating “office visit due” that said “We noticed you are due for your diabetic office visit with your primary care provider.”

I called the number and was informed that I was due for an office visit and that they would renew my prescription for only 30 days. I informed them I was just in and had lab work and my doctor visit is scheduled already for November. They tried to give me a reason why I should schedule a visit sooner. I told them my doctor and I have a routine.

They were messing with my auto-renewed 90-day medications and now I will have to do all this over again. After much hassle with them I concluded they wanted another $500 or so dollars from my insurance company. I told them this decision is between my doctor and me, not “my health care team.”

I will play this out, but in 30 days if this prescription is not filled, I will quit taking it and just attend my lab appointment in November and then my doctor visit. At that time and maybe before, I will see if I will continue to be a customer of the Everett Clinic. I just imagine I am not alone in seeing this new tactic of taking a 90-day prescription to a 30-day (one and done) “see your doctor or else threat” by the Everett Clinic Marketing Squad.

We have other clinics and doctors in the area.
