Letter’s author misapplied New Testament verses

A recent letter writer to the Herald expressed his disgust for any Christian who only uses the Old Testament of the Bible to demonstrate God’s disapproval of the alphabet people. He uses quotes from the New Testament, which don’t refer to alternative sexual lifestyles at all, to counsel acceptance of those lifestyles. I would point out another New Testament passage that particularly does address this issue. Romans 1:26-27: “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another.”

Of course, there are many verses that proclaim the mercy and grace of God for all people, as well as the forgiveness of sins. We are all guilty. For all who have embraced Jesus, His forgiveness is the beginning of a new life in Him. Part of the deal is to renounce our sinful past and to endeavor to follow Jesus, who compassionately told the woman caught in the act of adultery to “go and sin no more.”
