Traffic light is there to help locals

I am responding to James Jordan’s Aug. 21 letter “Sultan gridlock total waste of gas.” He says that he has been coming through Sultan and doing business with Sultan businesses since 1979. I am sure the business owners have appreciated his business. I have lived in Sultan since 1966. The light was not installed until it became impossible for the local people to get on and off the highway. So, if he goes across Blewett Pass, his will be one less car that we locals will have to compete with just to get onto U.S. 2.

For those who will still be travelling through our little town, we ask that you be patient, just as we have to be if we want to go anywhere on the weekends. Our traffic light is not there to make life miserable for drivers coming through, but to allow the locals somewhat equal access to U.S. 2. Unfortunately, U.S. 2 is a much-used highway with no real improvements in many years, nor does it seem to be a priority in the future. If this concerns you, please contact the Department of Transportation or your representative.
