Do you ever get sick of narcissistic pro athletes who constantly draw attention to themselves? Me too.
To distract us from that nonsense, here is a perfect example of why talking to high school athletes is so refreshing.
My next Timeout personality story is about Olivia Condotta, a senior forward on the Cascade High School girls basketball team. Condotta was nominated by her coach, Carlos Humphrey, for the article, which will appear in tomorrow’s Herald and on HeraldNet.com.
When I went to Cascade Thursday and interviewed Condotta, she answered all of my questions clearly and confidently, which isn’t surprising since she’s the Bruins’ student-body president.
At the end of the interview I told Condotta it was time for me to take a picture of her that would appear with the story. That’s when she did something totally selfless and admirable: She asked if Cascade’s six other seniors could pose with her in the photo.
I’ve never had a student-athlete make such a thoughtful request. Unfortunately the format of the Timeout stories prevents me from using a group photo, but I decided to honor Condotta’s request anyway. Condotta rounded up her senior teammates and the seven of them clustered for the photo, the one that appears with this blog post.
Cascade’s seniors are (top row) Elisha Smith, Emily Joyce, Maddie Molenda, Kayla Hayden and (bottom row) Ginalyn De Los Reyes, Condotta and Kaysha Keel.
To learn more about Condotta, who aspires to be a crime-scene investigator, check out tomorrow’s Herald.
