Deon Butler has a broken leg, and other notes from Sunday’s debacle

Just how bad was Sunday for the Seahawks? Even a touchdown turned into a negative. Receiver Deon Butler, who started because of injuries to Mike Williams and Ben Obomanu, broke his lower leg in the final minutes of the game after catching a two-yard pass in the end zone. He will stay behind in the Bay Area when the team flies back tonight.

That was the only major injury, though receiver Brandon Stokley also left the game with a hamstring injury. No word yet on his status.

As for the game itself, obviously no one was happy with the way the team played, in particular Matt Hasselbeck, who tied a career high with four interceptions.

“It was not a good day for us and not a good day for me,” he said.

Hasselbeck was most upset with the interception he threw at the end of the first half.

“It was inexcusable, it was terrible, it was awful,” Hasselbeck said.

What it wasn’t, however, was enough to get him benched or make Pete Carroll consider changing quarterbacks. Carroll said he thought about getting Charlie Whitehurst in the game late, but that the backup QB wasn’t warmed up enough. However that would have only been a move to get Whitehurst some experience, Carroll said, not a benching. Asked if Hasselbeck was still the starter moving forward, Carroll said he was.
