KIRKLAND, – Seattle Seahawks tackle Walter Jones is going back to the Pro Bowl. And this time, special teams standout Alex Bannister is going with him.
Jones and Bannister were selected to the 2003 Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Thursday.
This will be the third straight trip and fourth overall for Jones, who has started all 14 games this season and blocked for the NFL’s sixth-ranked offense. Jones also has helped Shaun Alexander to 1,390 yards rushing.
Since joining the Seahawks in 1997 as the sixth overall draft pick, Jones has started all 104 games he’s played.
Bannister is making his first trip to the Pro Bowl. He leads the Seahawks with 17 special team tackles and has helped punter Tom Rouen land 24 punts inside the 20, which is tied for third-most in the NFL.
He’s also been instrumental in Seattle limiting opponents to a 4.5-yard punt return average, which leads the league.
Bannister is a third-year receiver from Eastern Kentucky who joined Seattle as a fifth-round draft choice in 2001. He’s the third Seahawks player to make the Pro Bowl since 2000, joining Jones and John Randle (2001).
