BEIJING — Sean Beighton’s mixed doubles curling team finished out of the Olympic medals.
The Kamiak High School graduate is coaching both the U.S. mixed doubles and men’s curling teams at the Winter Olympics. The mixed doubles competition holds its medal matches Tuesday, but the Beighton-coached U.S. team of Chris Plys and Vicky Persinger failed to qualify.
Plys and Persinger finished 3-6 in round-robin play, which tied the U.S. for seventh out of 10 teams. The top four advanced to the semifinals. Sweden and Great Britain played for the bronze late Monday night Pacific Time, while Italy and Norway square off for the gold early Tuesday morning Pacific Time.
The men’s competition begins Wednesday. Beighton is coaching Team Shuster, the U.S. representative and defending Olympic gold medalist.
