Local players to play in Earl Barden Classic

I was cleaning out my email recently and stumbled upon an email that I’d missed. So though it may be a little late here’s some information on the Earl Barden Classic all-state football game and some local athletes tabbed to participate.

Sidenote: I’m working on a story on Sam Shober and his recruiting journey that sent him across the country and ended eventually at Stanford.

The annual Earl Barden Classic, the 2A/1A/2B/1B all-state football game, announced its 2012 nominated rosters and Archbishop Murphy’s Sam Shober and Lakewood’s Christian Melton are on the West team.

The game will take place on June 23 at 1 p.m. at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima.

Nooksack’s Robb Myhre is the West coach and East coach is Jeff Bartlow of Waitsburg-Prescott.

Players are nominated to the game by their respective leagues and those nominated players are selected to the Earl Barden teams by the East and West side coaches.

You can get more on the game from the Earl Barden Classic Facebook page.
