PANTHERS: A day after Carolina finished out of the playoffs for the second straight year, John Fox remained confident that he’ll return as the Panthers’ coach.

But speculation about Fox’s status won’t end until owner Jerry Richardson makes his decision public.

When asked Monday if Richardson would finally address the status of Fox and general manager Marty Hurney, team spokesman Charlie Dayton said it was unlikely.

In an e-mail later Monday, Dayton would only say that “nothing has changed” regarding Fox and Hurney.

JAGUARS: Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Stockar McDougle was charged in Miami with pushing the owner of a landscaping company and a female clerk because of a dispute about a bill.

McDougle was arrested Friday and charged with battery on a person 65 and older, a felony, and touch-strike battery, a misdemeanor, after he went to pay a debt, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office report. He became angry when owner Quilone Mitchell said he owed $2,229.48 and not $1,200 because of interest, the report said.

McDougle, a first-round draft pick by Detroit in 2000, was out for the season with an Achilles’ tendon injury.

JETS: New York plans to reinstate the sale of beer next season despite a ban in the season finale that appeared to curb fan rowdiness.

Whether sales will be limited and when the taps will be shut remain to be determined.

The Jets instituted Sunday’s prohibition after increased security at their prior home game failed to dissuade hundreds of men from imploring women at Gate D to expose their breasts at halftime.

The beer ban was not announced before the game so that fans would not “overindulge” in the parking lot ahead of kickoff, Minish said.

The Jets prevailed 13-10 in overtime of their season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs, but some fans let authorities know they missed their suds.

“We want beer!” some chanted at halftime, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported.

TITANS: Tennessee quarterback Vince Young will be day to day this week after reinjuring his right quadriceps muscle. His status for Sunday’s AFC wild-card game with San Diego could be in question.

“I can’t really say right now if Vince is going to play this week,” coach Jeff Fisher said. “I have a good feeling he’ll be back on the practice field, and we’ll see how he goes.”
