Bellevue 31, Lake Stevens 21

It was the battle of two defending state champions in a non-league matchup: the 2022 and 2023 Class 4A Vikings and the 2023 Class 3A Wolverines.

Lake Stevens led 14-13 at halftime but couldn’t do enough to halt Bellevue’s Max Jones, who registered 30 carries for 231 yards and three touchdowns, one of his scores arriving late in the fourth quarter from a 78-yard run to seal the game.

For the Vikings (0-2 overall), Kolton Matson threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns, completing 22 of 47 passes, and Jayshon Limar recorded 17 carries for 86 yards.

Wesco 3A South

Shorewood 47, Meadowdale 14

Tyler Giles recorded two passing and two rushing touchdowns and compiled 178 total yards in the Stormrays’ win against the Mavericks.

Kevin Haslam Jr. and Finn Bachler led Shorewood (2-0 overall, 1-0 league) in rushing with seven carries each, Haslam Jr. for 96 yards and a touchdown and Bachler for 78 yards. Bachler also had 27 receiving yards and scored a touchdown, and Jack Gallagher had 43 receiving yards and registered a touchdown. Gatsby Palmer ran in a touchdown and had two fumble recoveries, and Cole Petschl also had one recovery.

Compared to the Stormrays, which compiled 374 rushing yards and specifically 70 reception yards on two attempts and suffered one fumble loss, Meadowdale booked 292 rushing and 22 reception yards, fumbling the ball three times and only recovering it once.

Monroe 56, Edmonds-Woodway 0

Logan Manson and Aaron Clifton registered two touchdowns and Mason Davis three in the Bearcats’ win against the Warriors.

Manson completed 10 of 10 passes and threw for 190 yards, Clifton had 38 rushing yards and Davis 103 receiving yards. Jacob Jutte tallied 88 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Davis also ran in a 42-yard punt return on special teams.

Monroe (2-0 overall, 1-0 league) had 328 total yards compared to Edmonds-Woodway’s (1-1, 0-1) 153, and the Bearcats had zero turnovers compared to the Warriors’ two interceptions.

Marysville Getchell 21, Mount Vernon 7

The Chargers led from start to finish in their win against the Bulldogs.

For Marysville Getchell (2-0 overall, 1-0 league), the twin Palacol brothers each scored touchdowns. Arion “Bubba” had one and tallied 44 rushing yards, and Mariano “Ano” had two and registered 52 rushing yards.

Diego Salaz had one touchdown and 124 rushing yards for Mount Vernon.

Sedro-Woolley 21, Stanwood 14

Sedro-Woolley’s Cliff Tadema completed 15 of 21 passes and threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns in the Cubs’ win against the Spartans (0-2 overall, 0-1 league).

In rushing, Sedro-Woolley’s Sherman Griffin tallied 11 carries and 41 yards, Tanner Lagerwey three carries and 27 yards and Jae Thompson four carries, nine yards and one touchdown. In receiving, Kolyn Rochester had two receptions for 69 yards and one touchdown and Quentin Cobbs seven receptions for 123 yards and one touchdown.

Northwest 2A

Lakewood 46, Bellingham 14

Nash Espe completed 13 of 22 passes and threw for 287 yards and six touchdowns in the Cougars’ win against the Bayhawks.

Kai Elwell had five receptions for 133 yards and four touchdowns, Daniel Amevo three receptions for 57 yards and one touchdown, Porter Espe three receptions for 55 yards and one touchdown and Bakary Sonko one rush for 15 yards and one touchdown.

Lakewood improved to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Darrington 38, Lummi Nation 8

Hunter Anderson threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns, and River Brown also snatched a 75-yard pick-6 in the Loggers’ win against the Black Hawks.

Darrington improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Non-league

Granite Falls 13, Sultan 6

Jaxx Goldsmith threw for 44 yards and two touchdowns, and Beau Everson ran for 31 rushing and six receiving yards and notched a touchdown in the Tigers’ win against the Turks.

Sultan (0-3 overall), which turned the ball over seven times compared to Granite Falls’ (1-0) four, outgained the Tigers in passing and rushing yards, 111-44 and 132-68, respectively. Hunter Ansell ran for a six-yard touchdown in the first quarter for the Turks’ only score and lead of the game. Kaden Koehler threw for 100 yards, Benjamin Dilger rushed for 75 yards and Julio Vargas Jr. tallied 82 receiving yards.

Glacier Peak 27, Snohomish 0

Isaiah Owens rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns and Kai Brooks 47 yards and one touchdown in the Grizzlies’ win against the Panthers.

Glacier Peak (2-0 overall) compiled 322 rushing and 19 reception yards compared to Snohomish’s (0-2) 98 rushing and 104 reception yards.

For the Panthers, David Hammer threw for 99 yards, Brody Strandt rushed for 98 yards and Mason Surdi recorded 74 receiving yards.

Arlington 50, Bothell 49

Trailing 49-42 with less than 1:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, Leyton Martin and Chase Deberry connected on a 52-yard play on third down to keep the drive alive. That was then followed up with Martin’s 8-yard touchdown pass on fourth and goal to Jake Willis to make the score 49-48. Trusting in the offense, the Eagles (2-0 overall) went for a two-point conversion where Martin found Eli Rae in the end zone for the game’s final score.

Martin ended the night having completed 21 of 33 passes and thrown for 312 yards and three touchdowns. Caleb Reed rushed for 124 yards and tallied four touchdowns, Willis earned 53 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Chase Deberry had 139 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Cascade 42, Redmond 7

Andi Cosme had 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns and 76 receiving yards and one touchdown in the Bruins’ win against the Mustangs.

Ray Siharath threw for 126 yards and one touchdown, Brandon Lagutang had 119 rushing yards and two touchdowns and Devyn Chan earned 49 rushing yards and one touchdown for Cascade (2-0 overall).

Jackson 21, Lake Washington 3

Tyler Lykken ran for 53 yards, two touchdowns and scored a two-point conversion in the Timberwolves’ win against the Kangaroos.

Seamus Williams had two interceptions and a 48-yard touchdown on defense, and Colby Bossert completed nine of 15 passes and threw 104 yards on offense for Jackson (2-0 overall).
