SHORELINE — As time slipped away, the possibility of Marysville Getchell (0-2-2 league, 0-2-2 overall) acquiring its first win as a soccer program grew more realistic. Shorecrest (4-1 league, 4-1 overall), however, didn’t want to be a part of that history.

Instead, Kate Hildahl flicked a header into the back of the net on a corner kick from Kate Harris in the 88th minute for a 2-1 win that kept the Scots momentum going strong as the team prepares for a major showdown with Everett (4-0, 4-0) Thursday at home.

“Textbook,” Shorecrest head coach Mindy Dalziel said of the game-winning goal. “Kate put a great ball into the center of the box that (Hildahl) was able to make a perfect header on.”

Tuesday’s contest against the Chargers was the first matchup between the two teams and Dalziel believed that lack of knowledge of Getchell’s style of play caused some cautious play from her team.

“It was an interesting game to coach because we had no preconceived notions about them. Style of play, coaching… it was a game we definitely went in blind and played with some high intensity down the stretch,” Dalziel noted.

Nicole Sharratt got the Scots off and rolling in the first minute of the game when Sophia Flohr took the opening kick down and found Sharratt in the middle of the box for an open goal.

After that quick goal, the game was a stalemate for the better part of 60 minutes until Marysville Getchel’s Kelsee Crenshaw scored an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.

Now the Scots will prepare to play the Wesco 3A league-leading Seagulls squad that returns the majority of its starters from a year ago.

“That’s going to be a good mathcup, I’m looking forward to it,” said Dalziel.

“I think our team plays well against teams that are skilled and play a pretty direct type of soccer. It’s going to come down to the free kicks and corner kicks.”
