PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Edmonds-Woodway avenges loss in district title match

EDMONDS — Edmonds-Woodway and Monroe met in the 4A District 1 championship game last year with Monroe edging Edmonds-Woodway 3-2. Tuesday night Edmonds-Woodway returned the favor, knocking off the Bearcats 3-2 (28-26, 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 15-9) in a non-conference match between unbeaten squads.
“It was a war from start to finish,” Edmonds-Woodway coach Mike Pittis said. “It was very, very tight the whole way.”
Edmonds-Woodway lost the fourth game 25-21, but Pittis saw it as a turning point. E-W was down 24-16, but made a five-point run before eventually dropping the set.
“That was huge, we carried that momentum into the fifth (set),” Pittis said.
“I’m real proud of my kids, they showed a lot of heart,” Pittis said. “Losing that third and fourth game they could have folded their tent,” Pittis said.
Monroe’s (4-1 overall) Kendal Munoz had 51 assists and 18 digs, Megan Birch had 32 kills and 14 digs and Melina Seabrook had 16 kills and 13 digs.
Leigh Fishback had 49 assists, Hannah Lauber had 12 kills and three aces, Miah Diirell had 18 kills and 15 digs and Haley Scott had 12 kills and 20 digs to lead E-W (4-0).
Arlington 3, Mariner 0: At Everett, Arlington took the non-conference match by scores of 25-12, 26-24 and 25-18. Katelyn Kelly had 25 digs, Kristen Fowler had 25 assists and Nicole Leach had five kills for Mariner (0-5 overall). Marissa Elgarico had nine digs, Kenzie Jorgenson had 12 kills and three blocks and Melissa Webb had 15 assists for Arlington (1-4).
Lake Stevens 3, Glacier Peak 1: At Snohomish, Lake Stevens (3-2) stormed back with three consecutive wins behind Marchelle Bostic’s 31 assists, Brooke DalGleish’s nine digs, Ysabella Licciardi’s 13 kills and Kourtney VanSanten’s six blocks and nine kills to win 25-27, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20 in the non-conference match. Maddi Ober and Olivia VanDlac each had 12 kills, Taylor Rasmussen had 20 digs, and Taylor Lichfield had five blocks to lead the Grizzlies (1-3).
Jackson 3, Oak Harbor 1: At Mill Creek, led by the 14 kills and seven digs of Leigh-Ann Haataja and Christy Cain’s 12 kills and six aces, Jackson came from behind to earn the 22-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-10 non-conference win. Kristin Stoffel had nine digs and Haley MacDonald added 27 assists for the Timberwolves (4-0). Marisa Sutherland had 11 kills and Kelsey Terrazas-Cooley had 21 digs and two aces for Oak Harbor (2-2).
Marysville-Pilchuck 3, Shorecrest 0: At Shoreline, Mikayla LaRosa had nine kills, three aces and nine digs and Alisha Oden had eight kills and seven blocks to lead Marysville-Pilchuck to the straight sets (25-19, 26-24, 25-20), non-conference win. Aida Cardona had four kills and four blocks for M-P (2-3 overall) and Riley Taitingfong added 24 assists and seven digs. Shorecrest (2-2) was led by Nicole Swenson with nine kills two aces and Casey Axelson with 28 assists.
Stanwood 3, Mountlake Terrace 2: At Mountlake Terrace, after jumping out to an early 2-0 lead (25-16, 28-26), Stanwood dropped the next two sets 17-25, 23-25 before rallying in the final set 19-17 to earn the non-conference win. Shelley Dowrey had 10 kills, Kaci Jones had nine kills and Sarah Titus had 26 digs to lead the Spartans (3-2 overall). Cristine Lotz had 12 kills, Stephanie McGee had 26 digs and Christine Jenson added 30 assists for Mountlake Terrace (1-3).
Meadowdale 3, Snohomish 1: At Lynnwood, led by 10 kills and a 16-for-16 serving performance by Lindsey Milner and 27 digs and three aces by Jessica Yi, Meadowdale pulled out the 16-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16 non-conference win. Payton Shrum, who finished with eight kills, also had a strong game serving, going 18-for-18 for the Mavericks (2-2 overall). Megan Rice had 11 kills and 10 digs and Karla Nelson added 28 assists and 10 digs for Snohomish (0-4).
Kamiak 3, Cascade 0: At Mukilteo, Bryce Larson had 10 kills and Ally Bowles had 13 assists to lead Kamiak (4-0 overall) to the 25-22, 25-18, 25-14 non-conference win. Kaitie Brush (six blocks) and Danielle Love (five blocks) provided the net play for Cascade (0-4).
Lynnwood 3, Everett 2: At Lynnwood, Jessika Barlow came alive for Lynnwood with 20 kills and seven digs leading the Royals to the back-and-forth non-conference win. Mokun Fajemisin had 10 kills and eight blocks and Apol Thomaier added six kills and seven blocks for the Royals (4-0 overall). Emily Liger led Everett with 17 kills and eight digs and Haley Rudolph had nine kills and 12 digs for the Seagulls (2-3).
Darrington 3, Shoreline Christian 1: At Darrington, Caresse Baker’s nine kills, Jess Brooks’ seven blocks and Ally White’s perfect 15-for-15 serving added up for a 25-17, 17-25, 25-14, 25-21 Northwest 1A/2B win for Darrington (2-1 league, 4-1 overall). Laura Kredit had seven kills and 15 digs, Anne Marie Visser had seven kills and 20 assists for Shoreline Christian (2-1, 3-1).
North Sound Christian 3, Crescent 0: At Mountlake Terrace, Chantelle Meeks had 12 kills and nine aces and Elisabeth Tissell had 14 digs to lead North Sound Christian to the 26-24, 25-12, 25-20 non-conference win. Maylisa Chung added 20 assists and eight digs for North Sound Christian, which improved its record to 4-1.
Northwest Yeshiva 3, Grace Academy 1: At Mercer Island, Grace Academy won the first set 25-14 and led in the second set 17-7, but Northwest Yeshiva rallied to win 25-18, 25-23, 25-19 and take the non-conference win. Senior setter Lauren Krumm had eight kills and five aces and Hannah Krumm had six kills to lead the way for Eagles, who are now 1-5.
