LYNNWOOD — The Lynnwood and Everett softball teams boldly looked Mother Nature in the eye Wednesday afternoon and started a softball game with rain drizzling down and dark clouds overhead.
The two teams did not get to finish.
In the end, Mother Nature won the Wesco 3A contest between the Royals and Seagulls at Lynnwood High School. The game was called due to heavy rain that had not let up after 2 1/3 innings. Since the game did not reach five innings, the game does not count, and the two teams will start over when the game is rescheduled.
As of Wednesday evening, a makeup date had not been set.
“We’re fighters, we don’t care if it’s raining or snowing we’re ready to go,” said Everett head coach Casey Chaffee, whose Seagulls were ahead 3-1 when the game was called. “We were up and we were on a roll.”
Everett scored two runs in the top of the third, to go along with one from the first inning. Lynnwood also scored a run in the bottom of the second.
“(Everett is) one of the top teams,” Lynnwood head coach Matt Rockne said. “We’re excited to play them.”
