Silvertips roll to 9th win in a row

Everett beats Kelowna 4-1 and sets up Sunday’s showdown with Portland.

EVERETT — Ethan Regnier notched a pair of goals to lift the Everett Silvertips to a 4-1 victory over the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday night at Angel of the Winds Arena, the Silvertips’ ninth victory in a row.

Jackson Berezowski scored the go-ahead goal just 1:24 into the middle period and Regnier followed quickly after at 2:52.

Berezowski scored off a feed from Gage Goncalves and Regnier beat Kelowna netminder Roman Basran low glove from the left circle, prompting Kelowna interim head coach Kris Mallette to call a timeout and insert backup goaltender Cole Schwebius.

The Rockets struck first, as former Silvertip Mark Liwiski beat his man down the left wall and tethered a pass from the corner to Jonas Peterek, who buried it at 14:00 to put the Rockets up 1-0.

Silvertips leading scorer Bryce Kindopp answered just 39 seconds later for his 38th of the season.

Regnier tacked on his second with 26.5 seconds remaining in regulation to seal the win.

With the win, the Silvertips kept pace with the Portland Winterhawks for the race with the U.S. Divison after they won, 6-3, at Seattle. Everett is one point back with nine games remaining.

Everett hosts Portland at 4 p.m. Sunday at Angel of the Winds Arena.
