SNOHOMISH – Snohomish and Marysville-Pilchuck opened the Wesco North baseball campaign with a classic pitchers’ duel Wednesday.

The Panthers eked out a run in the fifth inning to capture a 1-0 victory on their home field.

“It was a great pitching duel between Ricky Holm (M-P) and Derek Jones.” Snohomish coach Kim Hammons said. “They just put zeroes on the board.”

“Snohomish capitalized on what was virtually its one opportunity to score a run.

“Marysville had its chances, but couldn’t get a clutch hit.

“It was absolutely a great first game. There were no errors. There was excellent defense and excellent pitching.”

Ethan Hargrave led off the fifth with a single for Snohomish and stole second base. Aaron West, who pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Jones to earn his second save, then drove in pinch-runner Cameron Woolsy with a single.
