The Herald’s 2018 Prep Football All-Area Defense

A look at the top defensive players in the area this past season.

Eds. note: The Player of the Year and All-Area teams were chosen by The Herald sports staff based on coach recommendations, season statistics and first-hand observations.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Kasen Kinchen, jr., DB, Lake Stevens

Kinchen totaled seven interceptions and 14 pass breakups while helping the Vikings reach the Class 4A state title game. The lockdown cornerback anchored the secondary and was key to a Lake Stevens defense that posted three shutouts and allowed less than 19 points per contest. In a rout of Jackson, he intercepted three passes and returned one for a touchdown.

FIRST TEAM

Brandyn Roberts, sr., DL, Lake Stevens

Roberts posted eight sacks, 11 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles for a defense that allowed less than 19 points per game.

Ma’ake Fifita, sr., DL, Glacier Peak

Fifita totaled five sacks, 10 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and three pass deflections for a defense that yielded less than 15 points per game.

Alex Maxwell, sr., DL, Meadowdale

Maxwell posted six sacks, 13 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a safety.

Markus Selzler, jr., DL, Shorecrest

Selzler totaled eight sacks and 14 tackles for loss. He also intercepted two passes as a defensive end and returned one for a touchdown.

Aaron Martinez, sr., LB, Oak Harbor

Martinez posted three sacks and 18 tackles for loss. He also had five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception for a defense that allowed less than 20 points per game.

Isaiah Harris, sr., LB, Lake Stevens

Harris totaled four sacks, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also had a key interception return for a touchdown in the Vikings’ first-round state-playoff win over Curtis. He helped key a defense that yielded less than 19 points per game.

Brandon Main, sr., LB, Shorewood

Main posted three sacks, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for a defense that allowed less than 20 points per game.

Kaden Graves, sr., LB, Shorewood

Graves totaled four sacks, 12 tackles for loss and two interceptions for a defense that yielded less than 20 points per game.

Dorian Hardin, sr., DB, Oak Harbor

Hardin had six interceptions and 17 passes defended for a defense that allowed less than 20 points per game.

Sammy Seliga, sr., DB, Shorecrest

Seliga intercepted six passes and returned two for touchdowns, including a school-record 102-yard pick-six in a Week 10 playoff game against Bellevue. He also had 11 pass breakups.

Spencer Osborn, jr., DB, Shorewood

Osborn totaled six interceptions, two forced fumbles, two sacks and two tackles for loss. He helped key a defense that yielded less than 20 points per game.

Brandon Bach, sr., P, Mountlake Terrace

Bach averaged 36.7 yards per punt, with a long of 56 yards. He pinned seven of 22 punts inside the 20-yard line.

SECOND TEAM

Jacob Derks, sr., DL, Glacier Peak

Derks posted four sacks, 18 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a defense that allowed less than 15 points per game.

Carter Cole, sr., DL, Snohomish

Cole totaled 6.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss.

Noah Dunham, sr., DL, Snohomish

Dunham was a first-team All-Wesco 3A South selection.

Elvis Musungu, sr., DL, Jackson

Musungu posted 5.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

Jordan Justice, jr., LB, Marysville Pilchuck

Justice had one interception, three pass breakups and 11 tackles for loss.

Mejinta Adams, sr., LB, Marysville Getchell

Adams was a first-team All-Wesco 3A North selection.

Mitchell Harper, sr., LB, Glacier Peak

Harper had two sacks, six tackles for loss and two pass breakups for a defense that allowed less than 15 points per game.

Dawson Drews, sr., LB, Cedar Park Christian

Drews, the North Sound Conference defensive most valuable player, anchored a defense that yielded just 16 points per game.

Efton Chism III, jr., DB, Monroe

Chism III intercepted four passes.

Dillon Kuk, jr., DB, Marysville Pilchuck

Kuk had five interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

Bryan Sanders, sr., DB, Marysville Pilchuck

Sanders had two interceptions and six pass breakups.

Marcus Dilworth, sr., DB, Edmonds-Woodway

Dilworth had two interceptions, one pass breakup, one fumble recovery and 2.5 tackles for loss.

David Eisenkraft, sr., P, Everett

Eisenkraft was a first-team All-Wesco 3A South selection.
