Thorson strikes out 23 to remain perfect

SHORELINE – Kristina Thorson struck out 23 batters and knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to help undefeated, defending state champion Shorecrest beat Shorewood 1-0.

With the bases loaded, Thorson, who gave up three hits to improve to 7-0 from the mound, hit a Heidi Heric pitch up the middle to score Erica Benson.

Heric struck out 12 Shorewood batters and surrendered five hits to drop to 4-2.
