Family addresses drunken driving
All students at Everett High School will witness a tragic account of underage drinking and impaired driving at an assembly Tuesday morning.
The Zylstras of Snohomish don’t want any other family to experience what they did last year.
Sixteen year-old Hannah Zylstra drank alcohol at a friend’s house party, drove impaired, lost control of her vehicle a short distance from home and died at the scene. Her parents were called with the news on Christmas Eve. Her younger sister, Emily, also was in the vehicle. She, too, plans to talk with students about the accident, as does their father, Fred.
“This family has started speaking for the Snohomish County DUI Victim Panel to try to save lives,” said Tracy McMillan, Snohomish County DUI and Traffic Safety Task Force Coordinator. “They have also donated Hannah’s car to the DUI and Traffic Safety Task Force. They truly are making a difference and are an awesome family.”
Hannah’s car will be displayed in front of the Everett High School Auditorium and at Naval Station Everett Tuesday afternoon to help remind sailors to drive safely, especially during the holidays.
