Meadowdale grabs Wesco’s top 3A seed

LYNNWOOD — The Meadowdale girls basketball team rolled to another No. 1 seed heading into the 3A District 1 tournament Friday.

Meadowdale sprinted out to an 11-0 start to defeat Everett 67-39 at the Meadowdale gym.

Eryn Jones scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Mavericks.

Meadowdale faces Wesco No. 5 seed Lynnwood at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Meadowdowdale. Everett, the Wesco’s No. 2 seed, hosts Northwest No. 3 seed Squalicum at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

South Whidbey’s Lindsey Newman barely missed a tripe-double, finishing with 30 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals, and Cayla Calderwood added 18 points for the Falcons.

Sultan 58, Archbishop Murphy 57: At Sultan, with 55 seconds remaining and Sultan behind by five points, the Turks came back to tie by virtue of a layup by Jordan Nicholes and a 3-pointer by Michael LaMunyon. Archbishop Murphy turned the ball over on the next possession and then on the other end of the court Jordan Nicholes was fouled shooting a 3-pointer. He made the second of three free throws to earn the one-point Cascade Conference victory.

Highland Christian advanced to today’s third-place game against Lopez Island. The winner of that game earns a state tournament berth. Lopez defeated North Sound Christian 77-61 in the other loser-out game.
