Snohomish boys drop state opener

TACOMA — The Snohomish High School boys basketball team dropped its opener at the Class 4A state tournament Wednesday morning, losing to Decatur 49-39 in the Tacoma Dome.

Darious Walker scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Decatur. Walker, a 6-foot-5 center who came into the tournament averaging 14. 8 points per game, made 12 of 14 shots from the floor. The rest of the team was just 6-of-29 from the field.

Snohomish shot just 37 percent from the field (16-for-43) and turned the ball over 16 times. Senior center Zach Wilde led the Panthers with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Snohomish (20-4) falls into the consolation bracket and faces Mountain View in a loser-out game at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Decatur (21-6) advances to the quarterfinals and plays Shadle Park game at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
