Cedarcrest comes out on top of Murphy in pitchers’ duel

DUVALL — In a classic pitchers’ duel, Thursday’s Archbishop Murphy-Cedarcrest softball game came down to the last out.
But Cedarcrest was able to edge past Archbishop Murphy 1-0 for the Cascade Conference victory at Cedarcrest High School.
“It was a real nailbiter of a game,” Cedarcrest assistant coach Rick Barker said.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Samantha Boelter reached first on a single, then moved to second when Marissa Botts drew a walk. A passed ball set up Sara Houser’s two-out, game-winning single down the third baseline.
The star of the show was Hillary Barker, with 14 strikeouts and one walk in the complete game shutout. Barker has yet to give up a run this season. Through 39 innings, she has given up eight hits and two walks with 80 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA.
