MILL CREEK — Carly McEachren braved the cold and pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 12 Lynnwood Royals along the way as the Jackson Timberwolves won the Wesco South softball contest 9-0 Monday.

The Timberwolves, who graduated eight seniors from last year’s state-qualifying team, continue to improve, said Jackson coach Mike Moran.

“They’re basically learning varsity softball (this season),” Moran said. “They’re getting it together and understanding how to play better softball. I knew it would happen, I just didn’t know how long it would take.”

Julia Nealer struck out 12 for Lynnwood in a losing effort.
