MILL CREEK — The Jackson Timberwolves and Edmonds-Woodway Warriors both entered Wednesday’s tennis meet undefeated and evenly matched.
They did little to dispel that notion as the Timberwolves squeaked out a 4-3 victory over the Warriors in a meet held at Jackson High School.
The Timberwolves and Warriors went back and forth in the first six matches with each team winning three.
Jackson clinched the victory in the final match of the day when Kristina Huynh defeated Lauren Ummel 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles.
“It was a very, very good match,” Jackson head coach Judi Montgomery said. “We always have a great match against Edmonds-Woodway. They’re a good team with some really good talent.”
Jackson’s Hana Kang and Tia Lee paired up to defeat Edmonds-Woodway’s Lexie Miller and Sheridan Smalley 6-4, 6-3, in a match that seemed to resemble the entire meet.
Montgomery said the match looked closer than the score indicated, as did the meet, as all seven matches were won in straight sets.
Edmonds-Woodway was led by a victory at the No. 1 singles by Kira Kearsley, who Montgomery called a “fine player.”
