EDMONDS — The Meadowdale Mavericks broke out of a two-game scoreless streak on Wednesday.
The Mavericks used a Lukas Thompson goal in the 55th minute to snap the scoring drought en route to 1-0 victory over the Jackson Timberwolves in a Wesco South soccer game played at Edmonds District Stadium.
The goal was Meadowdale’s first since a 3-1 victory over Mountlake Terrace on March 28.
The Mavericks played scoreless ties in their prior two games against Kamiak and Shorewood.
“It was nice to come out and get a win and demonstrate to ourselves that we can compete with the bigger teams in the league,” Meadowdale head coach Sean Griffin said.
Thompson’s second-half goal was set up by a pass from Jack Gold. Thompson was angling toward the goal when he received the ball before chipping it over the top of the goalkeeper.
Jackson (7-2-0 overall) had entered the game with only one loss and Griffin believes this game may have turned a corner for his team.
“It was a good game. An extremely intense game,” Griffin said.
Neketa McDonald was in goal for the Mavericks, recording his sixth shutout of the season.
“Neketa McDonald, in the net, has been incredible for us,” Griffin said.
