COUPEVILLE — The Lakewood baseball team scored nine runs Monday night against Coupeville.
Thanks to Jordan Stauffer, Lakewood needed only one of those runs to get the win.
The junior pitcher threw a shutout, giving up only one hit in seven innings and Lakewood rolled to a 9-0 Cascade Conference victory at Coupeville High School.
“We got down early and the kids got frusterated,” Coupeville coach Willie Smith said.
Stauffer finished with 12 strikeouts. Senior Josh Spears batted 2-for-4 for the Cougars, who capitalized on Coupeville errors to score six unearned runs.
“We probably made seven errors in the last 12 games,” Smith said, “and we go ahead and make seven errors in (this) one game.”
Zach Hauser started at pitcher for Coupeville before being replaced in the fifth inning by Kyle Wilcox.
