STANWOOD — The fourth-place Stanwood Spartans inched a little closer to claiming the Wesco North’s fourth and final playoff spot Tuesday, defeating fifth-place Oak Harbor 6-1 in a game shortened to five innings due to rain.

Trevor Stahl went the distance for Stanwood, striking out four batters and allowing just two hits in five innings of work.

“Fortunately for us, Trevor pitched really well,” Stanwood coach Tony Wolden said. “He was around the plate and we turned some double plays behind him to get him out of some jams.”

Drew Pearson was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs and Walter Thomas drove in two with a double.

The Spartans improved to 6-5 in league play while Oak Harbor fell to 3-6.

“This is the part of the season where we need to get a few more wins in the win column,” Wolden said. “(To beat) Oak Harbor is very important.”
