PREP BOYS GOLF: Highland Christian has three in top 11

BELLINGHAM — Craig Crawford of Highland Christian, the 2006 state champion, took a three-shot lead after Tuesday’s first-round with a 74 at Lake Padden Golf Course.
Teammates Jon Enge and Alex Witt were among three players tied for 11th, giving Highland Christian of Arlington a shot at the team title. Its main competition could come from Northwest Christian, which placed second and third behind Crawford and had three other players make the cut.
The final round begins at 8 a.m. today.

3A state meet: At Bellingham, District 1 champion Jens Bracht of Shorecrest shot a 73 Tuesday in the first round and trails leader Matt Rawitzer of Squalicum by four shots going into today’s final round. Bracht was tied for fifth place with four other players behind Rawitzer, Daniel Snoey of Camas, Cameron Peck of Timberline and Cory Mehl of O’Dea. Fourty-two players shot 78 or better to make the cut, including Chad Heise of Arlington, who was tied for 24th with a 77, and Nick White of Everett, who was tied for 31st with a 78.

Local players making the cut—Tie 5. Bracht (Shorecrest) 73, Tie 24. Heise (Arlington) 77, Tie 31. White (Everett) 78.
2A state meet: At Blaine, four Hockinson freshmen held the top four places after the first round. Gaston De La Torres shot 68 to take a one-shot lead over teammate Gerrit Chambers. Another Hockinson freshman was tied for sixth. John Lindsay of South Whidbey was the top Cascade Conference player. He was tied for 16th with a 75.

First round
Local players making the cut—Tie 16. Lindsay (South Whidbey) 75, Tie 20. Green (Sultan) 77, Tie 20. Guetlin (South Whidbey) 77, 24. Larson (Archbishop Murphy) 79, Tie 29. Zwaller (Archbishop Murphy) 81.
1A state meet: At Bellingham, King’s was among three schools with four players making the cut. But both Ilwaca and defending champion Charles Wright Academy had two players finish higher than King’s top finisher, Price Coshow, who was tied for 25th with an 81. Chimacum’s Chris Johnson took a three-shot lead over Ilwaco’s Jack Whealdon with a first-round 69.
