LAKE STEVENS — What a difference a year makes.
One year after finishing fifth in the Wesco North, undefeated Lake Stevens is 6-0 and sitting right smack in first place.
Annie Thomas scored two times and the Lake Stevens Vikings defeated the Arlington Eagles 2-0 Saturday at Lake Stevens high school.
“Arlington’s had a good season,” Lake Stevens head coach Andy Knutson said. “We just caught them at the (right time).”
The Vikings, who boast four seniors and 10 juniors on their team this year, managed to keep Arlington’s offense under wraps.
“The defense played a great game,” Knutson said. “Korie Barnes and the rest of the defense really kept kids in check.”
That gave Thomas opportunity to score. Thomas put Lake Stevens on the board in the 18th minute off an assist by Kaleen Berg, and scored again in the 57th minute to put the game out of reach.
Arlington fell to 4-3.
Goalkeeper Kaitlin McEnzie recorded the shutout for the Vikings. Arlington’s goalkeeper was not recorded.
Cascade 1, Marysville-Pilchuck 0: At Everett, Sam Munger scored in the 3rd minute of the game and Cascade (2-4-1) took the Wesco North victory over Marysville-Pilchuck (0-5-1). Whitney Hawthorne recorded the shutout and Lauren Schoonover started in goal for Marysville-Pilchuck.
Monroe 1, Stanwood 1: At Monroe, Monroe (2-2-2) and Stanwood (4-1-1) fought to a Wesco North tie, with Kaitlyn Chesemore and Heather Skeels each scoring a goal. Danny Philippart started in goal for Monroe, Haley Haugstad started for Stanwood.
Snohomish 1, Everett 0: At Snohomish, Grace Nelson scored in the 80th minute off an assist from Melonie Bjornethun, and Snohomish recored the Wesco North victory. Cori Brown recorded the shutout. Emily Nesting started in goal for Everett.
South Whidbey 4, Granite Falls 2: At Langley, Karissa Thomas, Megan Larmore, Paige Miller and Morgan Thomson each scored goals for South Whidbey in the Cascade Conference victory. Katy Ann Powers scored for Granite Falls as well as Katie Cashman. Natasha Kamps tended goal for South Whidbey (3-2 league, 4-3 overall) and Kelsey Carlson tended goal for Granite Falls (2-3, 4-3).
Lakewood 8, Coupeville 0: At Coupeville, Anna Work scored a hat trick in the first 25 minutes of the game with each goal coming off an Alicia Stott assist. Stott later assisted an Erin Dierickx goal. Chantelle Wright, Jessica Poluey, Miranda Head and Danielle Knapp also scored goals for Lakewood with Corie Harrison assisting Wright and Head’s goals. Head and Work split time in goal for Lakewood (1-4 league, 2-5 overall). Megan Smith kept goal for Coupeville (1-4, 1-6).

Mt. Rainier Lutheran 1, Grace Academy 0: At Tacoma, Mt. Rainier Lutheran’s Jin Lee scored in the 61st minute and David Greenwood recorded the shutout for a non-league victory. Garrett Weinberg started in goal for Grace Academy, which fell to 2-5 overall.
