Darrington: School foundation welcomes new members

The Darrington Education and Recreation Foundation is a new organization that has formed to support school sports, field trips, health education, reading, drama, music, and before- and after-school programs.

The foundation plans to meet and welcome new members, interested parents and others who live in the Darrington School District at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the community room at Darrington Library.

Donations to support school programs can be mailed to the foundation at P.O. Box 178, Darrington, WA 98241.

Everett: 40-day anti-abortion prayer vigil starts tonight

An anti-abortion prayer vigil is scheduled to begin in downtown Everett this evening and will continue for 40 days.

A group called 40 Days for Life plans to meet at 7 tonight at the Knights of Columbus lodge, 2913 W. Marine View Drive.

It will then move to a Planned Parenthood facility to pray. The group plans to have participants outside the facility from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until April 5.

Lake Stevens: Volleyball game benefits hurt teacher

The leadership class at Lake Stevens High School is coordinating a macho volleyball tournament to raise money for injured Skyline Elementary teacher Brad Hodge.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Lake Stevens High School gym.

The tournament is between sophomore, junior and senior boys, along with a team of staff members.

Tickets are $2 at the door.

Sultan: School district sets meetings on budget cuts

Sultan School District leaders have planned two community meetings to discuss the district’s budget and the potential impacts of cuts. The meetings are scheduled to include an overview of the budget and a question-and-answer session.

The first meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Sultan Elementary School Library, 501 Date St.

The second meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 3 in the gym at Gold Bar Elementary School, 419 Lewis Ave.
