MUKILTEO — The Jackson softball team opened its Wesco South play with solid performances on both offense and defense.

Senior Carly McEachran hit a two-run home run and junior Dani Jackman struck out 12 batters while pitching a one-hitter to help the Timberwolves to a 9-2 vicory over Kamiak in a game shortened to five innings by rain.

“(Jackman) did a great job throwing strikes and keeping us off balance,” Knights head coach Bill Bowker said. “Offensively, they have a pretty tough lineup … Carly McEachran was the highlight for them.”

McEachran tripled and scored to help Jackson take a 5-0 lead after the first inning. She homered with a runner on in the next frame to push the margin to 7-0.

With plenty of run support, Jackman dominated on the mound for the Timberwolves, giving up four walks and two unearned runs.

Kamiak’s Teddi McFall tripled and scored on a passed ball in the third inning. The Knights’ Heather Ching walked to lead off the fourth, advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on a delayed double steal when the catcher’s throw went to second base.

A light rain fell throughout the game, but Bowker said “both teams did really well under the circumstances of the playing conditions.” Play was finally halted at the end of the fifth inning when the rain picked up.
