MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — In an early season battle of two Wesco South rivals, two good swings of the bat can make all the difference.
With one out in the sixth inning, Lynnwood sophomore Kelsey Parker cracked a triple deep to right field to drive in Lynnwood’s first run. Then senior centerfielder Jerrica Kang brought Parker home with a single over short and the Royals blanked the Hawks 2-0 at Mountlake Terrace High School Thursday afternoon.
Otherwise, the Royals had trouble making contact against Mountlake Terrace pitcher Kori Seidlitz, who whiffed 16 Lynnwood batters in a complete-game three-hitter.
Lynnwood senior Julia Nealer struck out eight Terrace hitters and also allowed just three hits en route to her second win of the season.
“Julia really used her defense today,” said Lynnwood coach Matt Rockne. “Terrace had 13 other outs beside her strikeouts and they really spread the ball around.”
“We played some gritty defense,” added Rockne of his young squad. “We bore down and played with a lot of confidence and poise.”
