SNOHOMISH — Two of the top three boys soccer teams in the Wesco North played to a fast-paced draw Monday night.

Snohomish (4-1-1, 13 points) and Marysville-Pilchuck (3-0-2, 11 points) answered each other’s goals in minutes for a 2-2 tie.

Senior midfielder Elwood Sevon opened the scoring for the Tomahawks in the 21st minute following an assist from John Crenshaw. Snohomish leveled the score one minute later with a Brendon Gundry strike off a Sean Schaller assist.

“It was a very good, very fast high school match with two well-matched teams,” Snohomish head coach Dan Pingrey said.

In the second half, Snohomish took a 2-1 lead in the 41st minute following a Carson Pingrey goal (Thomas Sheets assisted). Not to be outdone, Marysville-Pilchuck answered in the 42nd minute on a Crenshaw strike (Tyler Miller assist) after beating two Snohomish defenders.

The teams played evenly through the remainder of the game, including two, five-minute overtime periods.

“Snohomish had two or three combinations in front of the net that got blocked,” Pingrey said. “We (Snohomish) had the more dangerous chances.”

One such chance came in the 67th minute when the Panthers’ Schaller had a quick touch in front of the net, but mishit the ball straight at M-P goalkeeper Kyle Bluhm.

M-P nearly scored on the counterattack following Schaller’s shot. Brady Ballew had a shot on goal palmed away by Snohomish goalkeeper Cody Melander.

“The two overtimes were fairly even,” Pingrey said.

“The game was a very good match, it was very pacey … a good, strong battle.”

Monroe 3, Everett 0: At Monroe, Drew Hopkins scored a goal and assisted on another and Miles Garman recorded his second consecutive shutout for Monroe in a Wesco North match. Quinn Coan (Hopkins assist) opened the scoring for the Bearcats in the 14th minute. Hopkins (Jack Fortune assist) scored two minutes later and Andrew Barrett (Shane McDivitt assist) scored in the second half. Garman was in goal for Monroe (3-2-0 overall). Everett’s (0-5-0) goalkeeper was not reported.
