LYNNWOOD — Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace ended up playing the equivalent of two full games plus one inning Tuesday before the Royals’ Kelsey Parker tripled to end the Wesco South softball game in the bottom of the 15th inning.

Parker’s triple over the right fielder’s head with one out scored a runner from second base to give Lynnwood a 1-0 win.

Parker struggled in the early stages of the game, striking out four times, but came through in the clutch for the Royals.

“They intentionally walked her in the 12th and I thought they would’ve done it (walked her) in the 15th, but they pitched to her,” Lynnwood head coach Matt Rockne said.

Until Parker’s hit, Lynnwood starting pitcher Julia Nealer and Mountlake Terrace’s Kori Seidlitz engaged in an epic pitching duel.

Nealer and Seidlitz both pitched all 15 innings of the game.

Nealer struck out 27 batters, walked seven and pitched out of a no-outs, bases-loaded jam in the 11th inning by striking out the side.

“Nealer’s effort all night was just outstanding,” Rockne said.

On the other side, Seidlitz struck out 24 batters and walked just two while shutting down Lynnwood for 14 innings.

“Throughout the night, they shut us down,” Rockne said. “Through the first 10 innings we had only left four (players) on base.”

Mountlake Terrace left five runners stranded through that same stretch, according to Rockne.

Starting in the 11th inning, the teams went to the international tie-breaker rule, meaning each team started the inning with a runner on second base. But it still took a while for Lynnwood to score.

“The great thing about this team this year is that they play from the first pitch to the last,” Rockne said. “They kept going and kept pressing.”
