PREP NOTEBOOK: Jackson boys ranked 13th in national cross country poll

The Jackson High School boys cross country team is ranked No. 13 in America in the 2009 Harrier Super 25 preseason rankings, released Aug. 14. Jackson, guided by coach Eric Hruschka, is the second-highest ranked squad in Washington. Ferris of Spokane is No. 1 in the Super 25 list and North Central of Spokane is No. 14, one spot behind Jackson.
Last season Jackson placed second at the Class 4A state championships behind team champion Mead of Spokane.
No Washington team made the girls preseason Super 25 rankings. Fayetteville-Manlius High (New York) is No. 1.

Marysville stadium will get artificial turf
The Marysville School Board on Monday approved funding to install artificial turf at Quil Ceda Stadium, Marysville School District athletic director Greg Erickson said on Wednesday. The turf could be ready by fall 2010, Erickson said. This school year Marysville-Pilchuck High teams will still use the stadium’s grass field, which is notorious for getting soggy and torn up during football and soccer competition.
Lk. Stevens softball alums
Three Class of 2007 Lake Stevens High graduates will play softball for four-year college programs: Christina Demuelenaere (University of Puget Sound), Athea Surface (University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio) and Brittanie Thibodeaux (University of Great Falls, Montana). The trio earned all-conference honors while playing the past two years for coach Lance Swehla at Shoreline Community College.
Head injury presentation set for Stanwood High
Dr. Stan Herring, medical director of the Spine Center at Harborview Medical Center, will give a presentation on youth head injuries at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 in the Performing Arts Center at Stanwood High School. The event is free and open to the public.
