EVERETT — Saturday afternoon high school girls soccer games often lack the thrill of playing under the lights in front of larger crowds during the week, making it hard for players to get pumped up, according to Everett head coach Kosta Pitharoulis.

But Western Conference North Division-leading Everett scored in each half en route to a 2-0 Wesco North win over Snohomish Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

“Saturday games are tough to get up for,” Pitharoulis said. “So I was pleased with the team’s effort.”

Kylie Beeson scored in the 32nd minute to put the Seagulls (6-0 league and overall) up 1-0. Following a long corner kick, Everett’s Bailey McMullen settled the ball and sent it back into the box to a waiting Beeson, who slotted the ball into the net from about six yards out.

The Seagulls defense did a solid job of keeping Snohomish (3-3) off the board. The Panthers had a couple opportunities, including a 45-yard free kick that sailed over the crossbar and three consecutive corner kicks that Everett turned away.

“The defense played very well,” Pitharoulis said. “Other than the three corner kick opportunities, the defense was stout, the whole back line (including goalkeeper Katie Johnson) played well.”

Haley Ayers doubled the lead with a header in the 63rd minute. Annie Sittauer swung in a cross from the far right side of the field and hit Ayers’ well-timed run to the back post for a header.

“There was a bit of a build up,” Pitharoulis said of Ayers’ goal. “…it was nice to see that.”

Ashley Holten took the loss in goal for Snohomish.
