PREP GIRLS ROUNDUP: Jackson’s Feeney has career-high 30 points

Published 11:28 pm Friday, January 8, 2010

MILL CREEK — Jackson’s Erin Feeney was just shy of the 1,000-point career landmark prior to her team’s crucial matchup with Meadowdale Friday night. The senior guard made sure she blew by the big number with a career-high 30 points, which was almost the exact margin in the Timberwolves 80-53 win.

“She has that shooter’s mentality,” Jackson coach Jeannie Thompson said. “She had a lot of open looks tonight and she was able to capitalize.”

The Western Washington recruit made nine of 10 from the free-throw line and had one bucket from long range but the rest of the damage came on layins along with pull up jumpers on the fast break.

“Our defense was really good tonight,” Thompson said. “Erin was able to get out in transition.”

Meadowdale’s defense frustrated the Timberwolves in the first half but some shrewd Jackson halftime adjustments turned the game into a blowout in the third quarter when Jackson held a 27-6 edge. The win keeps Jackson (5-1 league, 8-1 overall) tied for first in Wesco with Edmonds-Woodway and drops Meadowdale (4-3, 5-4) to fourth.

“Meadowdale has been at the top of the league for years but our kids were able to step up and handle the pressure,” Thompson said.

Meadowdale’s Julia Fjortoft, one of the Mav’s most important seniors, missed her second straight game with a minor injury. It is unknown when she will be able to return to action.
